Question:

Where to find an inexpensive and sufficient generator?

I need to find an inexpensive yet sufficient generator somewhere.... Not used. I was sent a link to a message board where someone mentioned living off of a Generac 4000XL generator. 6500 surge watts generator for a couple years, and they said they could be bought for $699.00 but I don't know enough about generators to find it or one like it or one at that price. Does anyone know where I can find one that fits my budget? I would like to run the water pump, a fridge, chest freezer, and maybe an appliance or two from it is all - during power outages. I really hate to have something that uses gas, but if that's my only choice...

Thanks for any guidance, keep in mind that for some reason links on these answers don't seem to show up so maybe put some spaces or something to make it known any recommendations from the internet.

  1. Consult a local electrical contractor about the price installed of back up generator system that can run on gas or LPG.  Figure a portable Genset is at least $100/ KW. a portable unit for your needs is at least a 6.5 KW, a permanent unit should be a  10 KW and probably will run $1000/ KW.

  2. yahboo237 is full of it. Don't believe her.

400 dollars of gasoline. Even at today's prices, that's 100 gallons.

I have a 1875w generator that'll run 24 hours with a load on it, on about 3 gallons of gasoline. My 1875w generator would run a frig easily.

I know I'm not answering you question. Just making you aware of nuts. That's all

My 1875w generator, which is small and easily loaded into the work van cost me $250 at Home Depot.

The house generators that automatically kick on during power failure, can run around $2000.

With changing weather conditions during our transition

into the greenhouse age, it may be wise to get a backup.

  3. Are you sure you want to do that?

We had a ice storm in Oklahoma this last winter, and several people (including my daughter) used generators till we got our power back. It cost her $400/day in gasoline to run the generator just for a refridgerator.

I would think about it and really do my research first.
