  1. www.finn.no is probably the most common place to search.

Unfortunately, it's all in Norwegian, so a good dictionary can come in handy.  Online translators and dictionaries like http://translate.google.com and http://www.tritrans.net can help a little, but some of the wording and abbreviations in the individual adverts might be a little tough to translate.

To get you started, though...  From the main page, choose Eiendom (real estate).  Then under Leiemarket choose the link labeled "til leie" (to rent).  Choose Oslo, and you'll get a list of neighborhoods.  You can choose "Alle omrÃ¥der" or a particular one you're interested in.  Then you'll get a list that can be narrowed by price, size, number of bedrooms, etc.  If you're only interested in apartments, choose "Leilighet."  If you need furnished/unfurnished, choose Møblert or Umøblert (or Delvis møblert, which is partly furnished).

Listings change fairly frequently, so while this can give you an idea, you might want to arrange a temporary apartment for when you first arrive and start looking from then, since you'll probably want to see the place in person before you rent.

If you prefer the word-of-mouth method, the Yahoo! Group New_To_Oslo sometimes gets posts about available apartments.
