Question:

Where to find foreign exchange average volume figures?

I just want to see when the most money is exchanged, from what exchanges, and from what times on average (looking for periods of highest liquidity). Data by currency pair as well would be phenomenal. Thanks for your help!

  1. Foreign exchange is a dealer market.  Traders contact each other.  There is no central exchange.  Some banks may have to report their activities to their local regulator, depending on what country they're in.  Hedge funds and investment banks don't.  Any numbers you may have seen are estimates and may be way off.

  2. If you are talking about spot forex then there are no volume figures as it is an OTC market. The world currency centers are Tokyo, London and New York so the most liquid times are during the business hours in those cities. Also, the most liquid time is the overlap between London and New York.

The most liquid currency pair is probably EUR/USD closely followed by the other major crosses.

If you are talking about currency futures then that depends on the particular contract and exchange.

  3. I actively trade forex, and when I need to see some information on what the market is doing, other than using price I use statistical information provided by my broker--
