Mate of mine bought a starter last week - the cheapest place was the local motor spares place, I couldn't get near the price on Ebay or anywhere else.

Do NOT go to someone like Halfords or similar "motoring" suppliers,- Too expensive,  but go to a reputable "motor factors" find in yellow pages etc as they can source either new or "recon" units off the shelf. These will all carry a manufacturers warranty.

If you buy from a scrap yard then you will be asking for trouble as 3 month later the same failure could occur.

Try any recondition specialist for starter or alternators as they will provide a grantee and give you a discount for exchange of old on for newly reconditioned.
