  1. Don't. We use the Pound Sterling, which is the oldest currency still in use in the World. As said, go to an ATM, which'll be OK.

  2. um, England uses pounds (not sure about the rest of the UK).

Just bring a debit/credit card and go to the first ATM you see - that's usually much easier than trying to exchange money before getting there.

  3. In the UK they use pounds and not euros. you can usually change money at your local bank. You can exchange money at the airport but they rip you off.

  4. All of Great Britian still uses the pounds sterling except for Ireland which uses the Euro. The only way to get it in the US is at the international terminal at the airport.  Personally, I would wait until you actually get there to exchange your money and do it at the airport but it'll be a crazy surcharge.  If you can  wait get to a currency exchange place, that would be better because they have cheaper rates or a bank is second best.  With the dollar being so low, you're going to feel it either way.

good luck , and have a great time.

  5. You are right.  It is nice to have some local currency on arrival.

As the others have said, the UK uses pound sterling except in Ireland where they use Euros.

It doesn't usually take long to get foreign currency through a local bank.  Phone around.  Some banks won't sell you foreign currency if you don't have an account with them because of the rules re:  money laundering.  When you find a bank that will sell you the currency, you will go in and fill out a form.  Ask then when you can pick up your currency.  You pay when you pick up the money.

Once you have your bearings over there, just use your ATM card in the machine the same as at home.  You will automatically be charged the exchange rate of that day on your statement.

Check with your bank before you leave to make sure your card will work in the UK.  Occasionally you have to make a modification to your PIN.

  6. The Euro is not in Use in the UK, it's still foreign currency

    you have been misinformed

we still use the Pound Sterling.

if you get it at the Airports, they usually rip you off on the exchange. Have you tried asking your local bank, sometimes they will do good rates for exchange.

if you wait till you get to the UK, there are a couple of places that do some good deals for it. Marks and Spencers usually have good rates, and Post Office usually do it commission free
