Question:

Where to get a bass saxophone

I was wondering where i could find the cheapest bass saxophone. I know they aren't really "cheap" but if anyone knows where to get one under 6,000 it would be great. I don't mind if it is used, as long as it is still in pretty good condition.

  1. Have you checked www.giardinelli.com?

  2. Wow... you're gonna be hard pressed to find one for that cheap... they usually run $10k and up!

WWBW.com has a few, and the cheapest is $6100... it is a student model by International Woodwinds, but fairly decent for what it is... (http://www.wwbw.com/Search.list?N=61&Ntt...  But remember too, that you will have to spend $40 for reeds, and $300+/- for a mouthpiece, as well as shipping!

Finding one used for less may be harder, as most sellers are getting hounded by sax collectors and can (and DO) charge twice what they're worth!  Also, if you do manage to find one under $6k, there will most likely be work that need to be done (new pads, dents, etc) and will cost you almost as much to get it fixed.

Your best bet is to spend a little more and buy it new.  There is lots of talk about the bass sax on "sax on the web" though (a sax forum)... I would see what those cats say... they may be selling one of theirs!  (http://www.saxontheweb.net/vbulletin/arc... ).

    Well, good luck!!! :)

EDIT: Well, the one I linked you to on wwbw has it for payments at $205 a month and free shipping... they have financing with "Play it Now"... I can't find anything cheaper.

You could always check with your local music store, but I doubt they have any in stock... they would have to order one, and I don't know that they would rent it out.  On something as rare as a bass sax, they would lose money renting it out the second it walked out the door- not to mention the insurance premium!!  But it's worth a shot!  If this is something for school, you should see if the school could rent it for you or see if they could figure out some kind of deal for you.

    Good Luck!!! :)
