A Colins or AA road atlas of the UK will detail main line national rail stations and every main road in the UK. You will need to be in a city to obtain detailed bus route maps of that city. In-depth street names and  details and small rail stations throughout a city or town can only be done through an 'A-Z map' of each city - available via internet shops or book stores within each city.

Via the net, Google earth is also a great source for looking in detail accross the UK
