  1. For generations, young Americans in your position have made extra money by tutoring children and adults in English. Basically, someone pays you (and usually pretty well -- maybe $25 to $40 per hour) to have a conversation with them in English for an hour. That's because they want to perfect their English, and learn from a native speaker of American English, instead of from a grammar book. You don't need to speak Spanish, because the entire conversation will be in English.

If you decide to go this route, put up flyers in schools and shops offering your tutoring services. You may also want to take out a small ad in a paper, or use a website like Craig's list (if they have it in Chile.) As a promotion, you may want to offer the first tutoring session at half price, until you have enough business.

You can expect your students to pay you in advance. Usually you meet once per week but some people may want to be tutored several times per week.

Because you are young and female, be extra cautious. Have  "students" come to your home when your parents are there. DO NOT meet students at their homes, for your own safety.
