Where to get free music the legal way?

I know that bands will sometimes put their album on their site to download for free for some amount of time. I just want to know is there any site has albums of bands(specifically alternative rock) that are free to download . legally of course

LimeWire is legendary. I've gotten all of my songs from there. Beware, because you might get a virus if you download a bad file. I suggest never downloading the song that appears at the top of the list... the viruses always sit up there.

limewire and frostwire are free and LEGAL as long as you dont burn cds with the songs you download
