I live in York and me and my husband would like to go on a weekend break, but it has to be in the UK.

What places would you suggest we visit? We like towns, beaches, countryside whatever! I am looking for towns to stay.

Thanks in advance

  1. This is my favourite place in the whole world!

It on the Lleyn Penninsula - north west wales.  Check out the website for more details.  Its a great place!

  2. Stonehenge... Marvellous!

If you like the beatles, liverpool has a awesome museum. And the best night outs + its beautiful nearby the docs!

  3. Well, off the top of my head there are 2 great options. Keswick in the lake district is great. You can do all sorts there, and it is near to Derwent Water (the huge lake). Second is Chester. Great town, lots of history. About a 30 minute drive to a beach I think, not sure. Anyway, wherever you go, hope you enjoy your stay here! :)

  4. Depends on your budget, if you are looking for a beautiful setting try www.eastwellmanor.co.uk its near Ashford (not far off the M20).  Nearby you have Canterbury (historic city), Rochester (historic city, about 30 minutes drive), Dover (famous for its castle and white cliffs), also the Kent beaches of Ramsgate, Margate, etc within an hour's drive.

Hope you have a lovely time whereever you decide to go.

  5. Thing to do is to stay close to home - since it's only a weekend break, you wouldn't want to spend 50% of your time on the road.

Check Britain's official Tourism website for destinations, like the Lake DIstrict, Yorkshire Dales, or Peak District, etc.

Second thing you should do is to do a good-weather as well as a bad-weather itinerary for the area you chose - weekend break means you can't sit out the rain for a day or two, like you would do during a longer holiday.

Have you considered Newcastle/Gateshead? I've been told they have built lots of culture stuff etc. in recent years....
