  1. Bavaria is south of Germany and Munich is the State Capital. Munich is a big City with a small town character. There are many nice Restaurants and Street Cafe's to go to. There is also a very beautiful  big park called the English Garden right in the heart of Munich. It is a very beautiful and quite place to visit. You can visit all the beautiful churches and castles and you will find true  Art of the famous painter Michael Angelo.

  2. I lived in Germany from 1980 until 1990 and again from 1999 until 2001.

There is a town NorthWest of Wurzburg called Wertheim. I lived there for several years and visted again the last time I went to Germany. The town is romantic and beautiful in every aspect. The town section is reserved for foot traffic and you can take leisurely strolls and set for hours at an outside cafe and enjoy pastry and coffee. They don't slam the bill on the table wnating you to leave (like in American Restraunts). Hotels there some are over 200 years old. You can find pictures of Wertheim on the internet. On your browser search bar type in Wertheim and select images.....There you can scroll thru some pictures.

If you go there I know you will agree that it is beautiful.

  3. I recommend The Bodensee (Lake Constance).  It's on the borders of Germany / Switzerland / Austria, and is absolutely beautiful!

There are romantic little hotels, small towns to wander through, promenades to walk along the lake-side, castles and churches to visit, ferries to ride, vineyards to do wine-tasting, small-town festivals to attend, and wonderful food and drink to enjoy.

    Gute Reise!!!  :)

  4. Trier was mentioned earlier. I agree. I have also been to those two small towns, which are (I thought) just like out of a fairy tale.

    Bernkastel (By the Mosel)

    and

    Monschau (Eifel)

  5. I lived in Germany from 95 - 99 and if you are in Southern Germany a nice place to go is Garmisch.  Its a little town in the middle of the Bavarian alps.  Its near Munich.  There is a lot to do and with the mountains all around you it is a very romantic setting.  They also have military hotels in garmisch that are actually very nice hotels.  I can't remember the name of them right off the top of my head but if you look in your military phone directory or call information they should be able to give you the number.  You could visit your local travel office too they could probably tell you.  If you want to go somewhere else you could visit Hiedelberg.  It overlooks the rhein and there are some good restaurants and romantic stuff to do and see.

  6. Check out the Best Western Hotel web site. BW hotels in Europe are very good! The one in Garmisch 'Obermühle' is nice, with indoor pool, sauna, fun keller bar, wonderful view of the Alps. Many of the BW hotels offer these wellness packages.

I mention BW because they often have discounts for Active US Military.

One of my Best Romantic weeks I ever had in Germany was completed unplanned. We started out for Salzburg, you know The Hill's are Alive with The Sound of Music...We took a 'Bundesstrasse', a State Road(?) not the autobahn and found a charming Gasthaus just by looking for places with sign out front 'Zimmer Frei'. We had some wonderfal days just walking/hiking around the nearby areas discovering little restaurants and breath taking views. One day we had a blanket and pack back for a small picnic on a hill side with trees and a view of a small lake and the Alps(we half expected the Von Trapp Family to come running by), anyway it was very romantic. The next 3-4 weeks is a good time to do this kind of thing because most German summer school vacations are over and the Oktober Fest Tourists have not shown up yet.

The Rhine Cruises are also a good romantic option. The KD line even offers an over night stay on some of their cruises. On the Rhine Cruise between Mainz and Köln(Cologne) you can opt to get off at one of the picturesque towns on the river. Stay over night there and the next day day continue on to Köln either by ship or train. Check the websites for all the details - maybe the on base travel agency(do those still exsist, or has the InterNet replaced them?) can check about a US Military discount?

I have read the other answers, and sone of them are good suggestions. I am assuming you want a quiet place? That is why I would suggest taking your car(or a rental), a good map, and getting off the 'well traveled path' and when you come to a town With Out a lot of tour buses and people with cameras it is a good bet that it will be quiet.

Good Luck and Have A Nice Time! I wish you two all the Best!

  7. ...you should try that little island "hiddensee". it's quiet and romantic. no cars. nice people and not too expansive...

  8. There are many nice and quiet places in Germany .

Where do you want to go to ? north west south east ?

Is it your first time in Germany ?

  9. I think Bavaria is very quiet and romantic- Munich, its capital, is a lovely, quaint city- it's known as 'the world village with a heart'.  The various small towns and villages in the surrounding area (especially those in the heart of the Alps) are beautiful, peaceful, and enchanting.

  10. A number of good places, that I can think of.

What is more romantic than the Rhine?  A cruise through the rhine gorge past fascinating castles, an evening in a little half-timbered town, that's been there through medieval times.  The legend of the Lorley and the Niebelungenlied - and all that wonderful wine.  For me there would be little more romantic, and a stay in Bacharach, St. Goar, or Boppard would be lovely, low key, quiet and romantic.

Someone suggested Bavaria, and I'd recomment the south, the alps. Again Castles, incredible scenery, and small towns with little romantic guest houses.  Rothenburg, also can be romantic, but I'd not call it quiet.  Visit the fascinating Baroque Wieskirche and Ettaler Monastery.

The Schwartzwald.  Especially if you like the outdoors, the forest, the lakes and the rivers.  Go see the source of the Danube.  Eat wonderful food, drink glorious wine!

Baths - the pampering is good for the soul and very romantic.

Medieval towns, like Goslar in the Harz mountains, Quendlinburg in the former East, Rothenburg already mentioned.  Roman towns like Trier.

  11. Hey! I'm American and live here, too. My hubby is AF--20+ years! I've lived here for 9 years and we recently drove to Garmisch and stayed at the Forsthaus Graseck Hotel. It is in a beautiful area just a 45 minute drive from Innsbruck, Austria, literally the most beautiful place I've seen in 9 years! It's also a short drive to see Neuschwanstein Castle and only five minutes from the American resort place that's in Garmisch. This hotel is not expensive and is very romantic. You have to take what they claim to be "the world's smallest cable car" to even get to the hotel. You park at the bottom and take the cable car up over a beautiful gorge with a rapidly running stream and over the mountains. It is beautiful! Hint...if you need an iron, take one...they don't provide them in the room (haha). They also have a "couples" hot tub for two. If you live in K-Town, there's a place to rent a navigation system...the "Grass Agency" insurance in Ramstein. Otherwise, michelin.com "for all your travels" gives perfect directions and Innsbruck is perfectly marked...just follow the signs to the Centrum or Zentrum.

  12. This website has many options worldwide including Germany. You do not need to be a member to book hotels which have very good rates. For the resorts and cruises however, you do need to be a member. www.onevacationclub.com
