Yassoo!

I am English and looking to go on holiday to greece, I have been there before but it was a late deal so we didn't really research before we went.

Where would you recommend for the best selection of Greek History, beaches and very hot temperatures (34C+).

I have already been to Kerkrya but that didn't have a lot of history.

  1. You wont have a problem finding heat in Greece in the summer months. its all HOT. Athens, of course has amazing ancient history at every turn. it also has pretty nice beaches just minutes away by Glyfada or towards Pireaus. Mykonos has amazing beaches and right off of Mykonos is the island of Delos which is an entire island of antiquity,Santorini has great beaches and has the ancient city of Akrotiri(not sure if it is back open to the public though). and of course Crete & Rhodes  both have great history and beaches,Actually I cant Imagine any Island of Greece not having history, heat and nice beaches, but the ones listed certainly do. Cheers

  2. well, Greece has everything it depends what you want.... If you want parties...Mykonos, Corfu or Hersonissos Creta and more.. if you want beauty go to santorini, meteora, islands and much more places but not the cities..  if you want ancients are everywhere, just check where you will be..

In your position i would go this: http://www.easycruise.com/

    cheap trips to many islands...

  3. this tour:

    athens-paros-delos-mykonos-naxos

  4. Hi,most of the islands have history, any island is beautiful in this wonderful country

We go every year for the holidays.

We love going to Athens for a day and night and although highly populated the history and the sights are wonderful.

From any island you will find a trip of interest.

Have a wonderful holiday,we go back to Crete again this year for our 3rd visit, can't wait for sept to come.

  5. I just went to Greece last week and I have to say that everything their is AMAZING!!

I would definitely visit Pompeii for touring, and the volcano their is incredible.  Also, go to Capri, it's just an hour boat ride from their.  Also, Athens has some good history.

But by far, Pompeii is the place to go for the history, it's amazing.  Capri for sightseeing, and try going on a cruise.  You'll get excursions, and their are a lot of beautiful islands that you just have to see in Greece.

  6. Every island is great and full of history as mentioned above. But if want to see history, maybe you should divide your vocation in two parts. First go to the Acropolis (and the museums in Athens), to Delphi (its located in lower central Greece) and to Olympia. Unique sites you will never forget. Then go to any island and have a good time.

If  you don't have enough time and want to find everything in one place the best choices are:

Santorini, Crete, Mykonos(on a short ferry ride you go to the uninhabited ancient island of Delos).

    Enjoy your holiday!

  7. Try, Thassos, Northern Greece. it has the best beaches that we have found after visiting 8 or 9 islands, also lots of history, ruins, an ancient market, amphitheatre (think that's how you spell it) different cultures have influnced the architcture, it's not very touristy so would not suit those looking for a lively nightlife or full english brekkie (thankfully) hire a car if you can and tour the isalnd, only 1 road all the way round, but lost of places to visit.  Very beautifil pine clad mountains, fab golden beaches (not crowded) nice food and nice local wine.  Try Thompsons or directline holidays for bookings. We are going back there next year 2009, can't wait.

  8. at first congratulations for your interest in greek history.

and secodly the best place to visit here in Greece is acropolis and the museum  benakis ...here in athens you can visit a lot historical sites and the temperatures are also very high!!!!

but if you want good beatches then better visit a greek island (all our islands are relly very beautifull!!)

    ......

    kalws orises!!!!(welcome)
