  1. Since you are traveling by train, you'll get off at Thessaloniki. It's

beautiful, has great museums and sites but it's very hard to stay there in the summer. So after you explore Thessaloniki a bit here are a few suggestions, all no more than 1,5hours away by bus.

First you should go to halkidiki for as many days as you can afford - If you have a camping equipment, you have a cheap option to go camping.

Great camping sites for young people at Halkidiki:

Poseidi students camping, Platanitsi, Armenistis (not so cheap but great), Kalamitsi and many others.

For a -morning till afternoon- swim at a beautiful beach go to Sani beach(less than 1hour away), Paliouri beach(about 1,5 hours away-a paradise)Kalithea and many others.

Halkidiki has great night life too (especially kalithea).

To get from the railway station to Halkidiki bus station  (it's not located at the same place as all other bus stations) there is a local bus directly to it(I think bus number 10, get a ticket on the bus if you got change).

If you would like to visit some historic sites, definitely visit Vergina about an hour drive by bus, and Pella. Have a great time!

  2. I think that the best place to go in north Greece is Thessaloniki (Θεσσαλονίκη). Another place lower but not very, than Thessalonoki is Volos (Βόλος). It is a nice place with nightlife, a lot culture, and very very good beaches!!! Happy summer!!! Welcome in Greece!!!

  3. Thessalonika

  4. Much of the coast of Northern Greece is beautiful.

Thessaloniki is good for nightlife...an hour's drive (or train ride) east you got Halkidiki where the beaches are amazing...an hour south you have Katerini with some nice beaches, great nightlife, Mount Olympus and the ancient ruins of Dion.

    Take your pick...it's all there

  5. Kavala is a very beautiful city in Northern Greece and after you seen most of it you can easily take the ferry to the nearby island of Thassos :)

  6. thessaloniki as has been said or halkadiki which is a large area but three main areas being sithonia, kassandra or  mount athos.

ps ooops didnt see you were going by rail, halkadiki would need you to hire a car so maybe you could go by train to thessaloniki then hire a car.

  7. Kavala or Xanthi.... great places both!

  8. Thessaloniki is the place where you will get off the train.  A lot of Thessalonians, Bulgarians and Albanians head to the beach at Korinos.  When you get off the train at Thessaloniki you can take the bus there.  It's about a 45 minute drive.  In July and August the clubs are alive and it's all pretty affordable.  It's a little lacking in culture.  You can go to the archaelogical museum in Thessaloniki for that.  They also tend to have some big name concerts come through there in the summer.

  9. Thassos is a  beautiful (most northerly) island, lovely and green

  10. you must go to meteora with the monasteries. also you must go to mount Olympus. then go to chalkidiki. these places are unique ant there are only to Greece. the others places of northern Greece you can find them in your country.

  11. kalcidiki

    and thassos island

  12. Thessaloniki, Kavala, Xanthi.

Also, go to the island of Samothraki. You won't regret it!

  13. If you want to have an unforgetable vacation, don't miss Chalkidiki, it is very close to Thessaloniki and has extraordinary beaches and many many places to choose!
