  1. There's the Springs Preserve on Meadows Lane.  It's a really cool interactive museum, nature trail, and overall place to learn more about sustainable living.  Plus it has a Wolfgang Puck restaurant.  It's north and west of the Strip.  The easiest way to get there is to take Valley View north.

There is Bonnie Springs which is south and west of the strip. It's a recreated old west style town complete with board walk streets and gun duels (with pretty good stuntmen).

Theres the Atomic Testing Museum on Flamingo street east of the strip.  It's also an interactive musuem about the testing sites near vegas.

There's Lake Las Vegas which is a beautiful resort area on your way to Lake Mead.  It has several very fancy hotels with nice restaurants and a shopping area.

At Lake Mead, there are boats you can ride on for tours.  Some tours even have dinners on board.

Sunset Park just south of Sunset street and east of Eastern street is one of the biggest parks in Vegas with sand volleyball, basketball, tennis courts etc.

Callaway Golf center on the strip and south of the casinos is one of many places to go golfing.

There are places that will take you skydiving.  Even one that has indoor skydiving (I think it's on Desert Inn stree east of the strip)

The Las Vegas 51's are an farm team for the LA Dodgers and they play games on Washington street north of the strip.  Their tickest are pretty cheap too.

There is a drive-in movie theater up by Fiesta Casino north and east of the strip.

There's lots of stuff to do in Vegas besides gamble.

  2. The most awesome place is about 2 1/2 hours north of Las Vegas by car--Zion National Park (its actually in Utah).  It is more spectacular than Yosemite (and the Grand Canyon).  Check it out.  you can do it in a day.

  3. Go to Mt Charleston.  It's only 40 mins up hwy 95 going north.  The Mountain has horseback riding, trails, camping. On the Mountain there are scenic spots to stop and overlook.  There are cabins with a great little restaurant and bar for a lunch or dinner.  It's about 20 degrees cooler on the mountain.  It's a wonderful getaway from the city, and you would never know that you are even near Las Vegas, a whole different world.

  5. Red Rock is nice, about a 30min drive from the strip.  Lots of trails and beautiful scenery. If you get really adventurous, Hoover Dam, about a 40 minute drive from the strip at the Nevada/Arizona border. Do you golf, there are lots of golf courses.
