Where to go near Queensland, Australia?

Question

My friends and I are from Sydney and we were planning to go to Hamilton Islands but it's too expensive. Tickets and accommodation were about $700 for 4 nights and we were looking for something which was like under $500 for tickets and accommodation. We are looking to go near the end of november. We are 17-18 years of age.

Where would you recommend us to go? We'd like to go somewhere like Gold Coast maybe? I've personally been there 5 times, but I can't remember what it looked like.

I was thinking Gold Coast before I even read the details. Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach or anywhere around there (in the GC) is a good place to stay, especially for people who like the nightlife and enjoy having a good time. Since you're coming near the end of November, it's the perfect time to hit our wonderful beaches! There is cheap accommodation and many to choose from, everything is close (malls, restaurants, clubs etc.) I don't know when you last came here, but there have been a few yet little changes. It's still beautiful. Hope you enjoy your trip, wherever you go!

Oh, by the way, if you come here, you must go to the Minus 5° Ice Lounge.

EDIT: If you and your friends are outdoorsy types, you should try Fraser Island. You can drive around the island (4WD) and just camp around. Or you can stay at the actual hotel. Still recommend GC though :)

You could go to Airlie beach ,which is the starting point to cruise the islands . There you can get back packers accomodation. the flight would take you to Proserpine. Check Jetstar and virgin for deals that come out often Airlie beach is great. The Gold coast is always good many deals to be got there. Just be careful it's not schoolies week which is mid November sometime as you would then need big bonds at the hotels and many will be booked out now . I think they also have a schoolies at Airlie Beach. Maroochydore and Moolabah on the Sunshine coast is really nice. Or Byron Bay northern New South wales
