  1. Pretty sure you have to pay, as it is a tourist attraction. As the other poster said, snorkel companies DO take you to the best excursions. I loved snorkeling on the islands, it's a lot of fun and definitely worth it!

  2. The reef system directly surrounding the island of New Providence (Nassau) has been depleted by overuse.  There are only a few spots left to snorkel from the beach, and you would have to rent a car in order to find them.

You're better off paying the small fee for a snorkeling tour to a healthy reef, or an excursion such as Stuart Cove's which includes a reef, a wreck and sharks.

Nominal fees are charged for these tours.   You can also go aboard the Flying Cloud, Seahorse or Barefoot sailing for a nice sail to nearby reef.  Again. charges are minimal compared to renting a car (or paying for a cab back and forth).. and trying to find some hidden beach thru the bushes.

Your tour desk will help you decide on the best tour for you and your group.

  3. What part of the Bahamas? Nassau, Out Islands, Grand Bahama Island.

Here is a link to the Bahamas, maybe this will help you

I have always found that the snorkel excursions companies take you to the best places.

    Good Luck and have fun)
