Question:

Where to go to celebrating my 21st birthday both in the northwest suburbs and Lincoln Park!?

I have two parties that are planned. One in the city around DePaul's campus/Lincoln Park and one in the suburbs (Des Plaines, Mt. Prospect, Arlington Heights) and we can go out further like Evanston and such if there's a place worth going to.

I would like to go to a hip fun bar, club, tavern that plays rock, indie, blues...pretty much anything but hiphop, techno/dance, country or pop music (or at least doesn't play it the entire night). Doesn't matter if there's live music or not.

If possible, I would love to stay clear from they typical Wrigleyville/jock crowds but I guess that isn't too important.

I tried looking at metromix but it's nicer if I got some kind of recommendations. Thanks in advance!

  1. i like smartbar at the metro, they do have dj's that spin some hiphop/ electronica, but it's good music and a good atmosphere.  don't know about the suburbs.

    good luck & happy birthday!

  2. the suburb party can start in Evanston at Tommy Nevins

then swing into the city's NW side (Edison Park in Chicago) to go to Emerald Isle, Moretti's, and EPI Edison Park Inn. (they are all walking distance from one another.)

then at 2am, drive northwest on NW hwy to Niles and hit up Here's Cheers...they are open until at least 4am...

when you are finished you can hit up Taco Burrito King on Harlem right by I-90.   or you can go to White Castle in Niles or the one in Des Plaines (right by the Mcdonalds museum)

  3. The guy above said The Apartment and John Barleycorn.  I mean, those are in Lincoln Park, but they are sort of the same crowd you said that you wanted to stay away from in Wrigleyville.  I would suggest, The Hangge Uppe (pronounced "Hang Up").  It is awesome.  They play 80s rock downstairs and it is quite a sh#t show!  It is located on Elm St. in the gold coast.    There is also a bar called the Tin Lizzie in Lincoln Park.  It is really fun and they play good music with crazy videos.  Happy 21st!

  4. I am not sure about the scene in the burbs, but I know you can hit up THE APARTMENT. I always have a good time there or go to John BarleyCorn. SmartBar has good music, even though it's in Wrigleyville, you will have a good time. What Rush and Divison?
