Where to go to find out about antiques and whether they are authentic?

I've just bought two documents from the 1600s and want to know whether they are authentic. How do I go about this? I'm from the UK by the way =]

Go to a  couple of different antique shoppes in your area and ask them if they reccommend any authenticators for documents, keeping it more local would probaly be better/
