Where to golf in St. louis?

My fiance wants to golf. But he doesn't do it and doesn't even own clubs. I live in St. Louis county and would like to surprise him by going to an actual golf course for his birthday. (not putt putt) I know absolutely nothing about golf courses. Do most golfing places let you rent clubs? Does anyone know of any good places to go in St. Louis for beginners? I found a good website. http://www.lastminutegolfer.com/stlouis/ But I don't know where to go. Thanks

Also, how do these places work?

  1. I live in Ballwin if you know where that is. One place I like to go and is for beginners is Tower Tee in St. Louis. It's a Par 3 course and its only $5 for a bagged set of club rentals and it cost $9 for 9 holes or $18 for all 18 holes. The address is 6727 Heege Rd. St. Louis MO 63123. Heres the site    http://towertee.com/

  2. First of all...Yes, most nice golf courses will let you rent clubs. The nicer the course, the nicer and more expensive the rental clubs. You can expect to pay somewhere between $10-$20 for rentals. That doesn't include golf balls or tee's. You should buy them at a sporting goods store (cheaper) and take a couple of dozen balls and tee's with you.

On the website you mentioned you can pick some tee times from their schedules but most of them are only going to show today's tee times. You need to call the golf course directly and book a tee time a week or two in advance.

The courses I would recommend are the following:

Quail Creek in south county near Susan Park

Pevely Farms out Hwy 44 near Eureka

Pheasant Run out Hwy 70 by St. Peters

    Good luck and have fun
