Where to live: Toronto, NYC, Los Angeles or Washington DC?

I've lived in Seattle, NYC, Albany NY, upstate NY, etc. Finishing my Master's degree in philosophy, I want to live somewhere where I can really dig into my writing and thinking -- philosophy, psychoanalysis, cultural and political criticism, creative, screenplays, poetry. I'm not sure which environment would really promote that where I can be successful in my own right and utilize my intellectual attributes instead of falling back on accounting and finance to survive which I did in all the cities mentioned above.

I have a lot of experience working in NY State politics, but I'm not sure it's the environment I want to be in -- all the corruption, s*x scandals from Eliot Spitzer to page boys. I've never been to LA, but I was really inspired by screenwriter Diablo Cody from Juno. My interest lies mainly with the idea of energy: Nikola Tesla, cold fusion, spines, psychoanalysis, etc.

  1. toronto because their streets are much safter then american streets

  2. Washington DC would get ruled out. The other 3 I could make a good case for.

Toronto requires that you get into Canada legally otherwise you can only stay for 6 months. (You don't mention duel citizenship).

I prefer the weather of LA to NYC but I prefer NYC to LA in that I like high density leaving. The cost of living in both cities though is considerably higher than Toronto so that might be a factor depending on your financial situation.

  3. Washington dc i preffer All The Way ...

la has a big crime rate and toronto is a beautiful citi but nyc is dangeres to many s*x scandles and bad people i prefer toronto or dc

  4. LA would be my 1st choice. great weather, laid back vibe, all the intangibles. really spread out compared to NYC.
