Where to live in Mexico? So many questions?

We have been researching places to live in Mexico but I have no idea where the best places to move to. I would like to stay away from Mexico City, that's a very big and crowded looking city. Any Mexican I meet in the US that moved from Mexico has told me (6 out of 10) that Guadalajara is good to start in.

What is stumping us is that we don't know what kind of work we can find out there. We don't speak spanish so how hard is it to find work?

Once we find a city to move to are there apartments or houses for rent in like a book or an agency we can look at?

So far I have a read about the culture and politics of the states within. But just to know a place we can go and live and actually survive is our main question. Oh also what time of year is good to move in....don't want to get caught in the big rainy season.

Thanks for any info :-)

  1. try Leon Monterrey lots of jobs, new homes startes at about 15000, good food, and the transportation is cheap, taxi, subways, bus,

  2. Im mexican. I agree with the questions above. Its difficult to find a job there and its a very competitive enviroment,.

But if you lern some spanish and you come to teach english I think you could fine a great job, specially in some industries or companies.

I advice you not to go to Mexico City.

Go to Queretaro, Aguascalientes, Monterrey or Guadalajara

  3. I´m not a mexican girl but I think you should go to yahoo answers mexico and ask...." por favor diganme un lugar bueno y seguro para vivir en mexico que no sea el DF"; I know there´s gonna be a lot of answers that will help you

    GOOD LUCK

  4. I am an American living in Mexico.  First...Guadalajara is a HUGE city...over 8 million people, and an absolute horror to travel around in.  Now, are you retiring to Mexico, or do you plan to work there?  If you are young and plan to work there..DON'T.  You CANNOT work in Mexico without a work visa.   These are very hard to get and usually granted to highly educated people with badly needed high-tech job skills.  You must first find an employer who will write a letter saying he is offering you a job that he cannot find a Mexican national to fill.   There are scillions of college educated Mexicans working as waiters and clerks and many others unemployed.  Mexico does NOT need workers. He must sponsor your FM3 visa with a work permit.  It is time-consuming, difficult, frustrating, expensive...and RARE to find such a person and job.  Then your work visa is tied to that specific job.  Even professional jobs pay a fraction of similar jobs in the U.S.  Have you visited Mexico?  You are NOT going to find ANY job if you cannot speak Spanish. Period.  You need to be realistic about this.    If you do not speak the language and have no special job skills to offer, WHY are you thinking of moving to Mexico? You will NOT be able to support yourselves.  You would need to be able to prove you have at least one years worth of income on hand to live on while job hunting to even enter Mexico ....You must have an FM3 visa to bring your belongings with you.   It is much better to work hard in the U.S., visit Mexico on vacations, save for your retirement, then retire here.  THEN, moving here is easy as you do not have to work.  Not trying to rain on your parade, but i am just giving you the facts.  You could also begin stulying  Spanish to prepare for the future.

  5. I live in Guadalajara and its a very nice place to live in. Well about the work there is plenty of it, depending on what you know how to do. There are very modern and beautiful places you can live in, for example near UAG (university) or near Galerias Mall, you can rent an apartment from aprox. $500 tp $1,000 a month, houses are aprox.from $1,000 to $3,000 depending on luxury. Its a nice city with plenty of money. Guadalajara also has one of the most active night life in Mexico. People are great, I love this place.

  6. Like Charlie said -- don't come to work - come to retire

    Period !!
