Where to live in Sydney?

Question

I won't be moving there for around 1 and a half years yet but i plan on visiting certain areas first.Now as for things i like,i like all types of restaurants,museums,shops/malls,beaches,... etc etc.I've narrowed it down to a few places and just wanted some opinions on these places and if you have any other's worth checking out. Prices and Expenses not a problem,i don't mind paying out extra for better quality seeing as i'll be renting to begin with,i don't believe in going for something because it's the cheapest lol i want something good for my money. The places are:

Darlington Harbour

Pyrmont

Palm Beach

Surry Hills.

There were alot more and i may consider more i just wanted to know if anyone has been to or lived in these places or could recommend any,i want to be pretty close to the CBD as long as it's not too far away by either car or public transport.

I know it's a while before i move i just wanted to get a heads up.

Palm Beach is delightful, but it is a long way out of the CBD  Think a 1+ hour drive, and longer on public transport.  It has some restaurants and more in Avalon a little way south.  No museums, and the nearest malls are at Warriewood and Brookvale.

palm beach and darling harbour are good.

and darling harbour is good to most places like transport even walking distance.

Darling Harbour is reallly expensive. Palm Beach would be a nicer place to live and not as fast paced and hectic.

Any of the city or eastern suburbs will fit your criteria well.

Palm Beach is too far away, consider Manly or Bondi instead if you can afford it.

Some of the city suburbs such as Surrey Hills and Paddington have a fairly high proportion of g*y inhabitants, I  personally think that is a positive feature but I guess it depends on how you feel about it. Keep in mind in city suburbs it can be difficult to shop for food/groceries as you have to travel out of the city a bit to find supermarkets with parking etc. In fact parking in general can be a problem if you plan to have a car in the city.

Also consider areas like Balmain - lots of trendy cafes etc and you can catch a short ferry trip to the city. If you can afford it you can have a harbour view.

I live on the northern beaches at North Curl Curl which is near Manly - there's great shopping here - beautiful beaches and lots of restaurants with many having outdoor dining to take in the fabulous views.  There is direct transport into the city via bus or ferry from Manly (or you can drive - takes about 30 minutes) -  once you're in the city it's all there too - restaurants, pubs, galleries, museums, etc, etc.... good luck with your move!

It's Darling not Darlington by the way

But I think Darling Harbour or Palm beach for sure. Don't forget to go to Bondi Beach while you're here!
