Question:

Where to live in the UK?

I am 22 and planning on living in the UK for a year with a working holidaymaker visa. I'm very overwhelmed about where to live though as I know very little about the different countries and towns/cities. Would anyone be able to suggest a good place to live? I'd like it to be affordable but as non-dumpy as possible...

  1. London is very good and very expensive, so that might be out for you.

York is very "Englandy" and lovely and relatively affordable, as is Oxford, Manchester, Liverpool and Leeds. I am living currently in Manchester. I'd say you can take a look at my friend's blog to have a good feel and idea of what the UK is like.

You might be adventurous and want to try Edinburgh and other places too, cheers! :)

  2. Peterhead Scotland... just telling someone you moving to Peterhead is funny!

  3. I would suggest Edinburgh in Scotland, accomodation can be expensive but you can flat share which would make it more affordable.

Edinburgh is a beautiful cosmopolitan city, steeped in history but very modern and vibrant as well, with lots going on all year round.

  4. I would live in the large town of Bedford .

This is because it is got the highest amount of different nationalities and cultures of people around (per sq km )

There is quite alot to do here and if its not your cup of tea London, cambridge , MK and Birmingham are both half hours to an hours drive away

There are good train links to all over britain

    crime is reasonably low

house prices arent as high as London

the people are friendly , there are plenty of jobs

Its has good schools and healthcare

    good public transport

    its an upcoming area

Its got a city life in some parts of the town with shops and luxury apartments

and its also got quiet life in some areas with country houses and rolling fields.

WHATS NOT TO LIKE ! ?

  5. York, England.

It's touristy so you'll find a job pretty easily, and it's a stunning place. It has a lot of history and has a lot of pubs (and i mean a lot)

And it's pretty central in the UK so you could get around most places within a day's train travel :)
