Where to pay of a fine?

I recentley received a fine at London Bridge station for not purchasing a ticket, you cannot use a oyster card at this station, and the ticket officer said that I will need to pay off a fine, and it will either have to be done by postal cheque to the Revenue Protection Support Services or at any Southern Ticket office- does anyone know any central Southern ticket offices or preferably any that are near Neasden Station/ Jubilee Line? P.S I do not want to send a postal cheque as I do not have a cheque book and if I told anyone in my family I got issued with a £20 fine, they would hit the roof.....Thank You

Any stations which are near Neasden, I went to Wembley Central and they said that they cannot pay off the fine. They said you need to go to a Southern Ticket Office and one guy said go to East Croydon Station, but will I have to buy another ticket when I get to that station.

  1. Penalty Fares can, in theory, be paid at *any* National Rail Ticket Office.

However, many will either refuse (generally using the "not our company guv" excuse), or will forget the most important part of taking the payment, namely telling the admin office that it's been paid! As a result of which, RPSS will keep hounding you for payment until they receive the paperwork from the Ticket Office, which can take up to 28 days.

If it's been issued by Southern, you could pay at Victoria (amongst others). If by Southeastern (you don't say what journey you made), then London Bridge, Cannon Street or Charing Cross would be your best bet.

  2. if u go to the p.o there u can get postal orders it charges u to use this service but it is also easy then u can post these to the fine place think adress is on the back of it,i would do it by recorded delivory olnly to have proof that u posted it good look.

  3. Unfortantly the nearest Southern Ticket office for you is at Victoria I am afraid to say. (Mind Southern do run a saervice to Watford, but I do not think that they run the ticket office there, but you could give it a try!)

  4. Hi

First things first I would send a photocopy of the notice you were issued with and then appeal it. Put some information down such as "it was my first offence", or "I was told that I would only get a warning", or the one I here most often as an excuse "The Inspector was rude to me and just handed me a piece of paper to sign".

You never know, that if you appeal, you might win the appeal by default because the Inspector might have forgotten to cross out the right section or forgot the date, or even made an alteration or did some overwriting.

Did the Ticket Inspector show you his authorisation to Penalty Fare? If not this could also be used as an excuse to win the appeal.

I was told on my Penalty Fares course that payment can be made at ANY National Rail Ticket Office (thats NR not London Underground).

Harlesden is a Silverlink station, thats close to neasden, I belive they use the same PF company as Southern.

  5. As a ticket inspector myself, my understanding is that ticket offices generally will not deal with the payment of fines anymore, though i'm sure there are probably exceptions. You're best bet is to send payment in whatever form that may be, you can send them £20 worth of postage stamps if you so wish, it is considered a legal payment, directly to the RPSS, plus this way you can guarentee that the payment is received. I'm sure you were told at the time of issue of the fine that you only have 21 days with which to make the payment, before the fine is dealt with by the courts, if you were not told this, this can be a defence as the issue of such fines is a legal procedure which has to delivered in the correct manner. I hope this helps
