Where to publish an essay/article free?

I'm not sure what to call it, an essay, an article, a rant even maybe but I sort of want to get it out in public and hopefully have as many people as possible read it. I'm not looking to make money out of this or have it be a career, I honestly just want as many people as possible reading it. Are there sites for that? (I don't really wanna start a blog), maybe sort of a popular editorial site? Is there any chance of getting it in the paper? (I think my writing is good enough to be published) how will I go about doing that? I'm not really sure, I just have something to say and want people to hear but I honestly don't know where to start going about that. Any help will be greatly greatly appreciated, thank!

This is difficult because as you may or may not know, editors are receving phone calls and email's about possible stories and articles 24/7.

If you are really passionate about this, I would start by looking at local news sights and see if they have something that you can post online in the community sections.  That will most likely be your best bet.

If that doesn't work I would try and narrow down what topic you writing about, then do the research.  Look at local papers and editors and try and find ones that write about things that closest relate to your essay/article.

The next step after that is to write a pitch.  Pitch the article to these editors, you need to be able to sell it (not literally) and tell them in very few words why they should publish what you've written.  Make sure your email's are short and sweet but inticing and appealing.

Don't forget to do your homework, research the right papers, websites and editors this way you save time and effort and can have a greater success at getting a hit.
