Question:

Where to sell palestine coins.?

I have a collection of Palestine coins under the British mandate.

I would love to cash out on that. I was thinking eBay, but I don’t have the time nor the knowledge to do that.

Local coin dealers want to pay very little for that as they say is hard to sell. Any advice?

  1. I've written an eBay Guide on that topic:

    http://reviews.ebay.com/Palestine-Coins-...

These coins are still sought after by collectors, but this is definitely a specialty item.  Demand seems to have dried up a lot from a couple of years ago; many coins draw far fewer bids.  Still, I've noticed some occasionally decent bids on eBay on higher grade and/or scarcer coins, like about $100 for a cleaned but sharp (XF or so) 1934 100 Mils, and over $100 for an NCG slabbed MS 1946 2 mills coin, both within the past several weeks.

It could be that those collectors who have been sufficiently motivated to put together complete sets have already done so. I've also speculated - without any concrete basis for this, just a hunch - that perhaps collectors anticipated considerable demand from the Palestinian diaspora in the event of the formation of a Palestinian state, and that disappointment and fatigue has set in since then over the political and military situation there.

eBay is a perfectly reasonable place to put up these coins for sale.  They have an EasyLister form ("eBay > Sell > Create Your Listing") that makes it almost trivial to put up a new auction for sale:

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Eas...

You could offer bulk lots of the any low grade, common date coins (example: nearly all well-circulated 1 Mils coins except for the 1940 date; well-circulated 1927, 1941 and 1942 2 Mils; well-circulated 1927, 1935 and 1939 5 mils; most well-circulated 10 Mils coins except for the 1933, 1934, 1941, 1942, and 1944 dates) and just list the scarcer and/or higher grade coins individually, which would considerably reduce your listing burden.

There are also several dealers who specialize in these coins, and might be more interested than most in purchasing part or all of your collection.  Two of them - mentioned in my eBay guide - are:

    William M. Rosenblum

    Commemoratives International, Ltd.

As 'Myself' mentioned, you might also check in with Jay in L.A.

  2. I don't know what country you are from but here in the States the U.S. coin dealers know very little about world coins anyway. The problem as you know is finding a buyer and on line auctions do make that easier. There are also wold coin dealers but in the end they need to see the coins to make an offer. You could wait until there is a coin show near you and then see if a world coin dealer is there. You can also check to see if there is a coin club near you, one of its members maybe interested. I do know not what you have so it is hard for me to help further. Few dealers are interested in the common coins from that time period.
