Question:

Where to sit in a cab?

Just a weird question I've been wondering about for awhile now. I catch cabs quite often, pretty much every single day to go to work and whatnot.

I usually sit in the front, right beside the cabbie so we can chat or whatever. But there have been a few times when they have the front door locked and tell me to hop in the back! Is it rude of me to be sitting in the front? Is there some sort of weird etiquette for being in cabs that I don't know of?!

  1. Yeah sometimes drivers hate that people sit up front with them. Its really nice of you and i can tell you are very friendly, however there are cabbies who are obnoxious and stuck up about people sitting up front with them.

  2. people usually sit in the back. some people like having some personal space.

  3. The proper position for taxi passenger is at the left side of back seat, for safety and security reasons.

  4. it's not rude. even if it was, you'd probably never see him again anyways.

  5. I sit in the front of cab when I am in the mood to chat with the driver. Most are receptive and some are not. I like to get them to tell me crazy stories about the other riders! I think typically people ride in back but there is no rule against sitting in the front. It is up to you and the cab driver.

  6. You sit in the back.

Cab drivers don't like it when you sit next to them. Or they just are not used to that. They have their paper works, money, etc. in front.

Especially in big cities you are NOT allow to sit in the front (robbers).

    Good luck...

P.S.  I live in NYC.  The cabs even have a divider (separating the front from back).  Nobody here ride in the front.

  7. When I was a young I always sat in the front also. I think you’re suppose to sit in the back though. Now as an adult I couldn’t image sitting in the front, it would be awkward.

  8. wow, rude cabbies! obviously its not your fault. your just trying to be socialable. it could a safety policy though. remember how lots of cabies get stabbed and stuff? its not that they judge you probabley.. just a safety rule maybe. im no expert.
