I really want to take a gap year between collage and university but i don't know know where to spend it, i live in the uk and I really want to spend it in either Japan or the USA. Ive got two main questions to help me decide:

How easy would it be to get work and live in japan if i leant basic japaneese?

How easy would it be to get work in the USA and what states would be the best to spend a year in considering, social life, avalibilty of work e.t.c

Or does anybody know any other good places i could spend it in?

Thanks for your help :)

  1. I don't know much about Japan, but I would definitely recommend going to the USA. You don't have to worry about learning a different language and there is practically everything in the USA.

I live in Indianapolis, but I would tell you to go somewhere fun and more exciting as a young person. New York is definitely a great place to live as a young person, but it has soooo many tourists and it is pretty expensive to live there. Chicago(Illinois) is another great choice, it is less touristy. Both of those cities have amazing public transportation. They also have great work opportunities. New York is considered the internship capital of the USA.

Florida is a great place to have a lot of fun, but the work opportunities are pretty limited unless you are interested in the tourism business.

Any capital of the states will be pretty interesting, just avoid states in the middle of the country. In general they tend to be less populated/interesting. Also the more south you go (excluding California and Florida) the more hispanic people, conservatism, and Southern accents you will find. The east coast

    GO HOMO'S!

So heres a random list of cities that are interesting, because I doubt you want to go to the suburbs. Boston, Massachusetts. New York, New York. Washington DC. Chicago, Illinois. San Francisco, California. etc.
