We are a family of 4 looking for reasonably priced accommodation (guesthouse, farmhouse) in Cork, Ireland.

We hope to go in August for about 5 days.

Where are good places to visit?

Any info greatly received about the area or accommodation.

  1. You absolutely have to stay at the Bellevue with the Neff's!  I visited Cork 3 summers ago and stayed there.  The B&B has a fantastic view of the ocean and the owners are two of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.  The website is http://www.bellevuebb.com/.  Check it out!  Enjoy your trip wherever you end up.  :)

  2. Try the Belevedere Lodge in Tivoli.

Places to see are Cork town, take a train to see the world Famous Castle Blarney, Ballycotton Cliff Top Walk, Carrigaline, Celtic Monument Tour, Clonakilty Way,  Crowley Way, Bantry,  Glengarriff, Mizen Head and  Sheeps Head Way

  3. City or County? The county is quite big. There is no such place as Cork town.

    Good places nearby:

Caves near Castleisland, Fota Island, Cobh, Cape Clear (island off the coast, take the ferry from Baltimore, bring very good shoes, motorised transport for residents only), Sherkin Island, Trabolgan is suppose to be good for young kids, and you should definitely consider going to Beara and driving over the Healy Pass.

Also good, but very touristy: Kinsale, Blarney.

Mallow is nice, not so touristy, has a terrific haunted castle. Kanturk a pretty town, off the beaten track. Newmarket has an orienteering course (weather permitting). Youghal is nice too, used to have a summer funfair, don't know if that's still there. Bandon also pretty. Skibbereen, Ballydehob and Bantry gorgeous, on the coast. Subtropical rain forest at Lough Hyne near Skibbereen, and Cape Clear has tropical temperatures when the sun is out.

5 days in Cork? You're going to wish you had taken 10.
