Where to stay in Lake George, New York?

"I am going on vacation to Lake George, NY and am wondering what part is the best to stay? I want it to be peaceful and beautiful- not interested in the most touristy kind of thing. Going in the middle of September. Any ideas?

First of all Lake George is over 200 miles north of NYC...not sure a lot of us go there on vacation (I know I usually head south, not north)...but maybe these sites can give you some info:

If you don't want touristy places you will want to stay outside the village. It is a tourist trap from one end to the other. Nice places, don't get me wrong but the traffic in town is horrible.

Enjoy your trip. The boat ride in the evening is lovely.
