Question:

Where to stay in Montreal?

I will be visiting Montreal in early Feb 09.

I have been looking at the Omni Hotel and the Holiday Inn Midtown on Sherbrooke.

Are both these hotels in decent areas and near to Shops, Restaurants etc?

Would you recommend staying downtown or looking at hotels in the Old Town?

Any help would be appreciated....Thanks

  1. Yes downtown for sure, but it will still be cold as h**l. Marriot lake champlain might be good too.

  2. Gee, you're getting ready a little early, aren't you?

Both hotels you've mentioned are centrally located - which means that there will be plenty for you to do once you get here.

By the look of their official website, the Holiday Inn Midtown looks amazingly awesome dude! See for yourself!

Staying in the Old Montreal isn't a bad idea at all but it might be slightly more expensive to book a room in a hotel there - just a hunch though!

    Enjoy your trip to Montreal!

    Hope this helps a bit!

    Any more questions?

  3. Hi,

It depends on the purpose of the trip and your budget. If you're coming on business or as a tourist or as a student.

In all cases because the public transport system (metro/bus) in Montreal is excellent, I would recommend staying in downtown. There is an active nightlife as well. Plus if you need to, you can always take the metro to visit the Old-Port area of the city. Also the downtown areas close to McGill university and Concordia University are safe with decent accommodation / hotels.

The next thing is the budget. If your company is paying for your trip, then yes any hotels on Sherbrooke street are decent like Sheraton, Holiday Inn etc. But if you are on a tight budget, then I would recommend for you to check out several hotels near the Montreal metro station Berri-UQAM. You can get a decent priced room on a per night rate.

Another thing is, how long do you plan to stay?

There are several families who rent out rooms in their apartments/houses/condos. Some even provide meals. Its like bed and breakfast.

A few main streets for the downtown area are:

    1. Maisonneuve West

    2. Sherbrooke

    3. St. Catherine

    4. Rene Levesque

All in all the areas in downtown in between McGill and concordia University would be well suited.

    Hope this helps.
