My mom and I are going to go to Myrtle Beach this week as a kind of last minute trip. I think we will be driving(from Ohio) and then staying at a hotel. My dad has a lot of points saved up from Hampton inn/embassy suites/doubletree etc.. and we need to figure out what hotel to stay at. I would like to be fairly close to the beach, possibly walking distance, but we can't afford the very expensive resorts found right on the beach. So has anyone ever stayed in one of the above hotels at Myrtle Beach or what would you recommend? Thanks in advance.

Also if you could list some other activities in Myrtle Beach that we might like (I'm 16). I know my mom wouldn't want to sit on the beach all day, and we want to have fun while relaxing.

  1. Living in Myrtle Beach, and playing host to family and friends, I have been tasked many times to come up with good activities on a tight budget.  With this experience I give the following advice.

    1) When making reservations or buying tickets ask for any discounts or deals.  Many of these will be unadvertised and change regularly.

    2) Always let the ticket seller know if you are active or retired military, a senior citizen, a local resident, a AAA member, a teacher, etc.

    3) If you plan to do an activity multiple times ask about a season pass. For ex: several of the area miniature golf courses are owned by the same company.  If you play 10 rounds on these courses over your stay a season pass will save you $3.00 per round.

    4) Residents can get a state park vehicle pass at the local library for $30.00.  This is good for one year from the purchase date for unlimited entry to all of the South Carolina State Parks.

    5) There are 4 different coupon books for attractions throughout the area.  These are available at the tourist info centers and free stands outside many area stores.

The Myrtle Beach Herald weekly newspaper is running a list of free activities and events throughout the summer.  ÃƒÂ¢Ã‚€ÂœFree Fun” is updated and changes each week.  Starting in early July you will be able to find an extensive list of discounts and money saving tips on www.myrtlebeachherald.com
