  1. le grannde hotel..which is in the center of paris..nd yooh can c the eiffel tower from your hotel window

  2. I'm not sure where you could stay, but AVOID THIS COUPLE: Vincent and Anna Chagnon (she sometimes goes by Anna Desfusains) which have this apartment near the Louvre which they rent out on their website "Paris Apartments Louvre" (http://www.parisapartmentslouvre.com/lou...

We had a TERRIBLE time with them.  They didn't give us their contact number and their phones didn't work for outside numbers.  They didn't have the beds made up when we arrived and the sheets they gave us didn't fit.  We had to ask a neighborhood florist to use her phone to call them to ask for sheets.  She dialed them for us and explained our situation to them in French.  He yelled at her so rudely that she held the phone away from her ear that we could hear him.  We went to take a shower and twice, there was no hot water. Then they said they'd do our laundry (tho' it said that they had laundry facilities, they didn't trust guests to use their machines properly).  When we put the laundry in the corner, they took a day to do them, and another to give them back to us. When it came time to check out, they told us they'd meet us at the apartment to give us our deposit so we spent our last Paris morning waiting for them.  They didn't show, and we had to hound them from back home, with help from the Perfect Places agency to get our deposit back.  Thank God for them.  I think they have since dropped the Chagnons from their site.  If they haven't,  they should!

  3. To stay central where all the action is, stay in the 5th or 6th arrondissement. The 3rd and 4th are good too and the eastern part of the 1st around Chatelet is OK too.

But my preference goes to the Latin Quarter/St-Germain districts in the 5th/6th (left bank). They are full of students and artists, small restaurants, cafés, clubs, outdoor markets, stores, etc. Stay closer to the river as the further south you go the quieter and more residential.

  4. go to www.frommers.com for ideas.

  5. I stayed at the Novotel (a bit pricey, but the client was paying for it!) by the Gare de Lyon train station.  I went sightseeing on the weekend and could go almost anywhere by metro.  Purchase a pass (they called it an orange ticket, but I think that's been replaced) and keep it with you - you'll need it to get in AND out of the station as well as show on busses (and sometimes transit police check for those passes).

    Have fun!
