I am planning on studying spanish for 1-2 weeks in Guatemala at the start of my 6month latin american trip and would love to stay with a Guatemalan family.

Dont know whether to study in Quetzaltenango or Antigua?

I would love any other tips too!

Gracias.

  1. Antigua is cleaner, safer and has more schools. If you only have a short time, go there. If you know some spanish then the other city  is fine. The only problem with Antigua is that everyone speaks english!

  2. Hello.

I studied at Don Pedro de Alvarado Spanish School a few years ago. The school has a very good reputation in Antigua. I was very happy with everything about the school, and I would like to recommend it. They have a good program for teenagers; many families come with their kids in July and August when they have time off during the summer vacation. The Program Director is happy to find placements for students who want to volunteer with local charities.

Here are two sites where you can find more information about Spanish schools in Antigua Guatemala:

Enjoy your stay in Antigua and study well!
