Where to total a car in California?

Hi, I live in Orange County, California. I have a heavily modified/race car that doesn't run anymore. It has engine problem but everything else is still working. It is 97 Eclipse Spyder convertible 2.4L custom turbo with built bottom end. I couldn't get it sold locally since it doesn't even start. Can anyone tell me where to total this car to get some money back?

BTW, I heard from my friends that DMV will total any car for $600. Is that true?

Thanks.

  1. part it out, i had a rare car that was only worth about 4 grand in running condition but i parted it out for close to 15k dollars over the course of a year and a half

DMV couldn't care less. It is your insurance company that will declare it totaled - IF YOU HAVE COVERAGE.  If not, then you might as well spray your money in the mall - you won't get any money from anybody.

    Good Luck...

  3. try to make it run theres always a way then put it in a demolition durby or have the firefighters in ornge count have practice on the car to take it apart and start it on fire thats what we do up here in minnesota.

  4. You are just asking for way too much.  If you part it out,  you should easily get more than $600.  They an Eclipse forum and ask around if anyone needs any parts.

  5. www.copart.com - we are the worlds largest reselller of  vehicles like this.  You will pay $150 to sell it - but that comes out of the proceeds of the sale.  So if you sell it for $1000 you will get a check for $850
