  1. Galway,Cork, or Kerry

  2. If you were going for a family holiday you could stay at one of the light keeper's houses at Galley Head west County Cork.  My family stayed there one year for a weekend and it was amazing.

Check out http://www.irishlandmark.com/ there are lots of great self-catering houses.

Clonakilty is a really quaint little town which is also in Cork and quite near Galley Head.

You could also try a trip to Connemara in Galway can be touristy but well worth the visit!

  3. Killarney is real nice, and Galway

  4. Okay, if you are going to Ireland you have to go and kiss the blarney stone.  before you go enjoy a less touristy place ; )

  5. Cork city would be a must, along with Galway city. Two of the nicest cities in Ireland, IMHO. West Co.Cork is lovely, especially the village of Schull and Bantry town.

Avoid Dublin. Waterford city isn't very nice.

Limerick city  is ok, worth a day or two.

County Kerry is nice, towns there to see: Tralee, Killarney (touristy, probably the most touristy in Ireland) Kenmare, Dingle.

The actual old world Ireland you refer to doesn't really probably exist these days, Ireland is a diverse, multicultural, modern society now but people are genuinely friendly and helpful pretty much no matter where you go.

  6. Dublin City

  7. waterford city

  8. Answers so far just illustrate how you shouldn't believe any advice you may get on here.

I live in Galway - if you're over 25 and don't enjoy jostling crowds, inflated prices, psuedo-Celtic music, getting drunk and shouting on the streets - stay away from it.

Go instead further west to Connemara, avoiding Clifden, Oughterard and Leenane (all okay to drive through but infested by tourists).

Try also west Mayo, Sligo, Donegal and if you're going south, avoid Killarney and Cork (Blarney) and visit the smaller towns and villages.

Wicklow, the Garden of Ireland is also worth a visit.

  9. The West coast. Galway, Salthill (some still speak gaelic there)...great town, lots of atmosphere, lots to see..........although Galway has always been kind of competition with Cork. Expensive though.

Best advice I can give you......went to Galway loads of times but only one or twice in other cities ( Dublin etc)
