Where to work as a Graphic Designer (Mississippi)?

I will be graduating in the Spring with a Graphic Design degree. I plan to stay in my home state of Mississippi but the availability of design jobs are limited. I am planning to send my resume and work samples to larger corporations who are not design firms, but often have a few graphic designers on staff. Some of my ideas are the newspaper, news station, hockey team, casinos, power company, NASA, etc. Does anyone have any other suggestions of company's which may employ inhouse designers? Anyone familiar with the area and design jobs? My last resort is driving to New Orleans, about 45-60 minute drive, where I would have no problem finding a job.

You also can try to work as freelancer graphic designer, but then you will need to advertise your services on websites like this one: http://www.bokrin.com/view?c=Services&s=... thats takes  some time.
