  4. Kunta Kinte (the ancestor Alex Haley wrote of in "Roots") came from the African country of Gambia.

  5. A lot of the "facts" in "Roots" are now thought to be suspect. It seems that Haley when he came to a blank space in his research was a little...erm...creative in his work.
