1. Scotland. Macbeth wanted to be King of all Scotland

The Three witches in the tragedy Macbeth are introduced right at the beginning of the play. They recount to Macbeth three prophesies. That Macbeth will be Thane of Cawdor, Thane of Glams and King. These prophesies introduce Macbeth to ideas of greatness. Macbeth will eventually follow through on killing king Duncan. It was sometimes thought that the witches had the ability to reverse the natural order of things.

  2. The play is set in several different areas of Scotland and in some scenes they are in England.

Macbeth wants to be king of Scotland and is murdering all those in line of the throne or that threaten his title. Scenes in England are for when some Scots try and ask for an army to assist them in overthrowing Macbeth.

  3. On the stage of the Globe Theatre. Other than references in the text that might suggest that a scene is on the heath, or in a castle in Scotland, there were no sets in Shakespeare's time that would have told the audience where the play was set. So if it's in the text that's where the play was set. If it's not in the text, it's not in the play.

  4. Baltimore.
