There used to be a huge bus station in bournemouth that was spread over two levels, but it burned down years ago, forcing the buses to uses the square and the triangle. (Apparently 80 buses were saved by being driven out, that shows the size of it!)

  1. It's a bit much to trawl through but check this out

  2. I remember the bus station in Bournemouth. My friend and I, aged 18, were having our first holiday away from our families in the Welsh valleys. We ended up in this enormous bus station and were quite overwhelmed by the size of it. Your question has brought it all back.

  3. Hi i lived in Bournemouth and remember the fire hear is what i could find of it for you  hope it helps

Overnight on July 24th/25th 1976, a large fire destroyed the unique bus and coach station in the centre of Bournemouth. The fire, believed to have started in a tyre store, destroyed 16 coaches on the lower level, however, about 80 buses above were driven to safety.

The building was so badly damaged, it had to be demolished. Buses had to use make-shift bus stops around the Square and Triangle areas, later the Triangle was adopted as the new 'Bus Station', although it simply consisted of scattered rows of bus stops!

The Buses were temporarily garaged in the old Royal Mews garage in Norwich Avenue until being moved to Poole in 1980.

    Hope this helps.

  5. it was just off the square. bobbys store was almost oposite. there was a church which is now a nightclub called the landmark.it was behind the exeter hotel and was between the winter gardens and the bournemouth gardens. if you walked down terrace road from the triangle you would see it. for a long time  after the fire in the early sixties it was waste ground. then it was an NCP car park. as it still is

    edit  blooody h**l. 1976??????

  6. It was on Exeter Road just off The Square, opposite the Winter Gardens.

It is now a car park, backing onto the lower Pleasure Gardens (where the 2CR tethered balloon flights are during the summer).

Take a look at the size of the car park and imagine it as a bus depot - it was huge!
