  1. I hope you meant pilgrims?  Their destination was "The new world."  Looks like they made it, huh!

  2. pilgrims you mean?

Anyplace they could escape as far as I know.

  3. There were and are lots of pilgrims in lots of contexts. In Western Europe during the Middle Ages for Christians there were countless minor pilgrimages and 3 great ones: to Jerusalem, to Rome, and to Santiago de Compostela in Spain.

The "pilgrims" who came to North Ameican were unusual in that they were not going to a place already famous for religious events or people, in fact they were kind of escaping rather than going toward something.

  4. Depends what you pilgrimage is to or for.

For Christians, it is their church and church conventions.

    Jerusalem,

    Mecca,

    The Vatican/Lourdes,

Washington DC/ Civil War Battlefields Trail---for American History buffs

    Hollywood, Bollywood, Hong Kong

For musicians:  Vienna, Liverpool, New Orleans

For fashionistas---Paris, Milan, London, New York

For horse racing:  Kentucky Derby, Melbourne Cup, Hong Kong Jockey Club, Dubai
