  1. On the 6th floor balcony of my condo at Fort Myers Beach. Because the shoot went off early I tried to watch as many of the launches as possible. This was history still being made.

    The launch vehicle was just reaching high azimuth when the booster tanks peeled and fell away. There was a huge and noisy explosion we could hear after about 30 seconds following the fire ball.

    Small bits and pieces began falling into the Atlantic, at that distance down range. I had a great sense of loss and immediately said a prayer for the lives lost as my wife answered my call from within and came out to witness the final plummeting.

    The sight will be with me for my whole life.

  5. I believe I was at home after a long day at school. I attended my last year at highschool, and I just remember there was something on the news about the accident.

    May the seven astronauts rest in peace.

  7. It was strange.  I fell asleep with the TV on that night, and woke up way earlier than normal, just minutes before the accident.

    I remember watching live coverage of the re-entry...  then the **** hit the fan.  I was in Austin, TX at the time.
