I live in a suburban area, and I finally got my driver's permit, but my parents are downright nervous about me beginning to drive. Where/when would YOU recommend beginning to drive until they feel I'm a decent enough driver to go on most roads?

  1. start where its worst.

when i got my permit, i remember getting behind the wheel, my dad in the passenger seat, looked over at me and said "take me to durham"

which is an hour away, requires 3 busy highwys nad it was rush hour. I'm a better driver than most teens...and that is why.

  2. Parking lots and or school parking lots but make sure that you get the owners permission before you do this because sometimes they do not want this liability.

  3. I would suggest that you look around your area for a Industrial Park... with lots of warehouses.  After business hours and on weekends, most of these "parks" are all but deserted.  You will have very few vehicles on the streets and you can practice your driving without the added stress of lots of traffic to deal with at the same time.

I hope this helps and may  you have a safe and Happy New Year.

  4. i recommend that you begin with a three on the column that is well worn and in some rolling hills on an abandoned road or some farmers cow pasture. when is right now.

  5. my first drive was a road trip i drove like 400 miles and back...best to just jump right in and drive to the place that your family drives to daily

  6. start at a big empty parking lot

  7. I learned to drive for the first time at a mall parking lot when the mall was closed.

  8. I personally feel that your parents should just take some heart medicine and take you strait to rush hour traffic becuase if you can drive in that you can drive pretty much any where that or an empty parking lot
