What will Pietersen's status be by the time he finishes up?

I reckon he will be regarded as England's best ever limited-overs batsman. By quite some margin. He's probably there already:

How about in Test cricket?

He's likely to retire as their leading run scorer:

But probably unlikely to match Sutton, Hammond, Barrington, Hobbs and Hutton statistically.

Still, good enough to be included in an all-time England Test XI?

  1. i know only two players who played good ODI cricket for England

    Trescothick and Nick Knight

Pieterson may be the best one ever the england produce for ODI and another person who will be in history of ODIs for england will be Paul Collingwood

  2. Agree!! He will be one of England's best when he retires!! He still has a long way to go and look at his records already!! He's gonna be such a big cricketer in the future!! He will break all kinds of records and will go into the record books as one of the greatest all-time cricketer!!

  3. I agree he is their best ever one day player.

I believe he'll end up with a test average mid forties and have many test centuries, but with small grounds, modern bat technology and a distinct lack of fast bowling talent around, I won't compare him to the great men of English cricket......Records or no records

  4. great Question, star for you !

yes, pietersen is a great player, who can disguise his style and posture over the pitch which can be deceptive for bowlers and thus can be very effective in batting!

    thanks and regards

compliments for posting such a wonderful Q!

  5. i dont see anyone else in the current squad in his league

  6. I agree that is a great question.

ODI's first, he will easily become England's highest run scorer in ODI history, on this rate if he plays 250 ODI's he will score about 8,000 runs in ODI cricket. England havent had that many great ODI players, so yeah Pietersen will more than likely be the greatest ODI player that England have ever produced. In my opinion Pietersen can only improve in ODI cricket, at the moment he has the knack of producing 1 unbelivable innings followed by a few poor innnings, if KP can find some consistency in ODI cricket, he can average around 45/46 in his whole career, which would be exceptional for a top order player.

Pietersen should be the leading test run scorer in England's history, but he will never be able to match the legacy's of the name's you mentioned. I wouldnt count out Pietersen matching the statistics of the names you mentioned (do you know that Dravid averaged 46 in 2001, and now he averages 55) Pietersen again can only improve in test cricket, remember that he has only toured most countries once! when he gains experience of condtions and other teams players, his average will surely go up! Pietersen is a hard worker, he wil battle his hardest to improve his game, technique to suit any type of pitch anywhere around the world.

My Prediction- ODI's- Not only the best ODI player that England has ever produced, but up there with Jayasuriya, Richards, Bevan etc as the 2nd best ODI player of all time. He will score 8,900 ODI runs

Tests- 10,100 test match runs, at an average of 53. Maybe not the best statistically, but he will have a huge legacy!
