I can sit here and stand on a soapbox and rant and rave like many people on these forums but I will not. Instead I will offer insight and possibly alternative ideals and methods to sweep through this nonsense of our current presidential election.
There are many wrongs and few rights on both sides of the coin. Republicans are trying their best to separate themselves from the policies of Bush to show the American public they can change for the next four years. Democrats are urging that after the past eight years of the same kind of ideals, another four years would pretty much not improve our situtation at all. Both stances are proper but both are also wrong.
I could say alot about Republicans as an official democrat myself, but I think they do have some good policies. Their ideals are centered around the idea that we do not need the government to hand us everything on a platter and I support that idea as I never want anyone actually telling me what is and what is not in my life. But their policies in regards to the economic standpoint is I think far off center. The concept of the trickle down effect i am sorry to say does not serve the best interests of this country; as the large majority of the country is not insanely wealthy. It has good points but has some serious flaws.
The Democrats believe moreso in a government that does not stand by idle and do nothing to help its citizens. They believe more in a active role in the government in order to move forward. And this obviously sounds like a great deal except the fact that in some parts they also provide a way of control that could be extremely harmful to how we function as groups of anything. Being told what to do has its limits even if we as parents of children understand that they need a level of discipline and structure in order to succeed.
I think this country is great not in part because of just one plan of attack but because of many. When we sit and talk about bipartisanship we are talking simply about how we as people work together regardless of varying degrees of belief. And that overall is where we all, public included, have failed in doing so. So my question was where will this country go at this rate of non cooperation?
Even on the smallest level, cooperation solves problems more quickly than it would be alone. Two heads are better than one, and that ideal is proven time and time again. How much better of a country would we be if we solved issues in a short timespan than what we do now and with less arguments on what could be done? How much do memebrs of different parties work together just on small things to acheive things greater than they would alone? These are questions that I ask but many of us really already know. We don't and havent. And that ladies and gentlemen is why were are here at this point today.
So to breathe life into my question one last time, where will this country go if we continue to be at odds with each other? And this question includes the public as well because just as it is important for Washington to get a clue and work together, the PUBLIC must project the same attitude constantly to the government as well or else it wouldn't matter what they did.. Think about it.
