we are talking sociologically here people.. geographically they would be in Africa, more likely in Asia or Europe, as they would have become slaves of those nations instead of American nations. However the question was for a base of sociological topic and discussion. The definition of sociology is the systematic study of human society. This topic was placed in Social Science > Sociology, not geography.

  1. Still in Africa. I know you know this already, so why ask?

  2. Isn't the answer kind of obvious?

Still back in Africa though many West Africans might possibly be enslaved by Islamic states instead?

  3. Take a look at Liberia. A lot like that.

  4. It looks like China will dominate the world pretty soon.  So I guess it would be good if they kidnapped you and set you to work in the rice paddies.  In a generation or so, you would be living in the richest, best country in the world.

    Sound attractive?

  5. Africa?

  6. One of the wealthiest people in the world.

  7. Africa.  Unless they moved.  Not everyone born in a certain place stays there all their life...people immigrate, set up families, that immigrate, etc.

  8. It is pretty hard to say since you cannot unring the bell.  The reason I say this is because slavery did not only affect the slaves themselves but the way tribes in Africa behaved as well.  By far, slaves were not captured by White Slavers but purchased already in bondage from other Africans.  They were usually the prisoners taken in tribal wars.  The ability of gather wealth by warring on other tribes and taking prisioners affected the behavior of the African tribes.

So while there would be fewer Black Americans that are decendants of Slaves, what life would have been like for those same decendants had there been no slavery is not possible to say.

  9. Their culture would still be intact.

    NO:

    Black panthers

    civil rights movement

    Blood, Crips and gangs

    Hip Hop

Black people would not be at all seen the way as they are today all the sterotypes we hear are aimed at decendants of slaves which do not even represent all black people worldwide most like in Africa but if slavery never happened none would exist and believe it or not Africa and Asia would be on top while Europe would be how Asia is today while Americas would be how Africa is today. In the Americas Native Americans would of later gained independance from Europeans and Native Americans would be dominant in the Americas put have as many problems Africa has today

African Americans would not exist so you cant get an answer for how they would be of course

  10. You ask a very interesting and provocative question and I would like very much to answer it.  But before I do, I want to ask you something.  Where would we Americans be, black and white, if the early British settlers hadn't imported people from Africa to provide the free, hard labor that made a tremendous amount of money from tobacco and cotton and all the other industries that relied on these goods as a source of income?  Would the United States of America still be leader of the Free World today if the British and Scotch-Irish ancestors (including the Portuguese) hadn't forced race-based slavery since the early 17th century?  Keep in mind these early European merchants of greed and fortune REALLY wanted these Africans for slaves.  They had previously tried to enslave the New World's Native American Indians against ther will, too.  This failed because these[Indians] were already quite familiar with this land that was their own home turf and would run away.  (There was also failure to keep the [Indians] as slaves because many died after being exposed to new diseases.  They proved not to be as hardy as the Africans.)  Would all of us privileged Americans be heirs to this First World Nation of High Technology and Industry without African Slavery?  Where indeed would we all be were it not for the African-Americans ancestors?

Now in answer to the sociological question you posted above; like a previous poster alluded to, none of us are sure where African-American people would be today if their ancestors hadn't been betrayed by their own and sold into slavery.  Several generations later, most people who are primarily of African descent aren't full blooded African anymore.  They're racially mixed due primarily to forcible rape and inappropriate sexual relations on African women by white slave owners, overseers, their male relatives, business associates and the like.  And then many black americans have Native American Indian ancestry as well.  If you don't believe this just look at the generational African-Americans today (not the recent African immigrants) and you'll notice the variation in skin and hair color, hair texture and facial features. They're not "pure" African anymore.  Indeed some of their ancestors can be traced back to Europeans.  So where indeed would African-American people be were it not for slavery?  That's hard to say exactly because of the DNA "hair-splitting" that would need to be done to determine their full historical ancestry.  I suppose some of the African -Americans ancestors would still be in Europe were it not for slavery.  Most of their ancestors descendents would have remained in Africa and others still here in America.  Do some people wish the civilized European Ancestors hadn't participated in such an egregious act against humanity?  Do some people wish their African Ancestors hadn't sold their own for a few beads, trinkets and scraps of brightly colored cloth offered to them by the European slave purchasors?  I'll bet some do.  But what's done is done.

All legal and natural born descendents of the American people belong here.  I  wish Americans would move past the pain and regret caused by the actions of others who are long gone.  Let's accept each other as equal contributors to this great country regardless of skin color.  We can't really say where we'd all be if our ancestors hadn't been a part of slavery.  I for one am glad to be here now with my family and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

  11. In Africa, stupid.... The word is "their", not "there".
