Question:

Where would I make a complaint on a plastic surgeon?

I had what was to be a simple procedure on my lower mouth, to remove some fatty tissue under my bottom lip. The plastic surgeon I chose, who is board certified, charged me $1000 for the procedure. To make a long story short, he did the procedure 3 times and the result is no different than before I went. It accomplished nothing and my mouth is more swollen than it ever was before. And the worst thing is, he cut the nerves and haven't had feeling since the first procedure. His assistant keeps putting me off and the doctor won't return any calls or letters. I've tried to be civil and have been more than patient, but I've had it. He screwed up my mouth and I'll never have any feeling again. Another surgeon guarantees the results I was after from the beginning, but can't get any response from the doctor who messed it up. I asked for the fee back and just call it a bad experience, even though I have to live with no feeling for the rest of my life.

How do I lodge a complaint against this doctor to the medical board or plastic surgeon board? I've tried everything to this point and I still have gotten nowhere. Any suggestions?

  1. In the USA, you should contact your state medical board. They will have a process for making a complaint against your doctor. Also, as mentioned, you can retain an attorney to advise you and/or to write a letter to the doctor.

  2. Find a "no win no fee solicitor"  who will advise you. Hopefully they will be able to sort this.

  3. The State Board of Plastic Surgery
