Where would an inexperienced soon-to-be actor go for information in South Carolina???

I have been wanting to be an actor for a long time now, call it a little dream. But I can't really afford to go to college for classes or any kind of major acting schools so for starters I would like to know where I might be able to go in South Carolina for any information on acting and what potential roles their could be for me out their. I live in Camden and I could probably find something in Columbia but haven't found anything yet. Any help would be useful.

You are no soon to be actor. It takes years to become an actor. However, look for community theatres and tryout for their plays and get some experience.  That is number one!

google "star search casting" and sign up, most people get contacted within a few weeks/months.  BREAK A LEG!!!

I'm an otherwise DIY Doc, and degreed DOC, but I agree with this DOC, and wonder how anyone might define "Soon to be"???

   Small venues, community or independent theaters, internships, volunteering at any theatrical pursuit, is a beginning.

   WANTED TO BE, is similar to what I feel. I "WANT" to win a lottery, but find it impossible unless I buy a ticket, and even then unlikely.

   I say this so often I should have it emblazoned in my pat text answers. You obviously have access to the WWW. Have you at the very least, done a general search using some of the keywords most appropriate to what you want?

   I almost wish Yahoo would split the category, into two groups. Wanna Be's and reality.

   Charlotte, Camden, Columbia, ANYWHERE that has any inclination toward Culture, might be part of your search notion. Thankfully for you the dream is LITTLE. Contact also, those agencies, (Not acting or agents) that specifically deal with the film and theater industry in SC. I have to believe they exist, though SC is not a theatrical mecca.
