If the world is our oyster then where would be the best place to move to as a family with a young son with mild/moderate autism ??

I wonder about the USA, Canada or New Zealand in particular

  1. The state of California in the USA.

  2. Its pretty hard for those who had autism to live in a big country, from the matter of everyday needs to education. I would rather choose New Zealand, since its a beautiful country that close to the nature, and peace. Rising child would better be done in peace neighborhoods.

That's as a suggestion, I hope you find the perfect place..

  3. I can only speak about what I know.  In the USA in PA thats Pennsylvania the special education curriculum is rated very good, same as in New Jersey.  I am in DE, where everyone always says you should move to NJ or PA.  Also, here you are very close to Maryland where the Kennedy Krieger hospital is.  It is a hospital that specializes on treating autism.  It is cutting edge, and people fly from all over to have their autistic spectrum child seen there.  Also, Dr. Greenspan is in Maryland to.

EDIT: I was just at my sons Psychologist who specializes in autism, she said New Jersey is the best.  She said that there are lindamood bell labs in every school and that for my son to pay to go to one in Brynmar PA is 18,000 and that is just for summer camp.  She said that the taxes are high but it is well worth it for anyone with a child on the autistic spectrum.  She said the curriculum for everybody is Wilson fundations, and all use handwriting without tears in regular ed.  Also the social skills groups are top notch, these kids all get 1:1 services in the reg. ed setting, and sensory integration is an integral part of the program, not just a focus on handwriting (which is what my state does).

  4. my nephew has autism.....but i like your question.....but im not sure about whether u mean best place with regard to best education?.............well assuming ur not talking about education...canada is a beautiful country,  new zeland is also fantastic........its a tough question, but a good one :)

  5. A place where you and your family feels respected and welcomed; your child accepted and honored for being the person he is; you can receive any assistance your family requires; your son feels safe and happy, and you're part of a community that cares.

Seek and you shall find :)

There are places in many parts of the world which are 'pearls in the oyster', Australia is one of them. (Well ok. I'm an Aussie. I'm biased) :)
