    If you define a "tool" as "any object other than one's own body part", a "tool" can be a stick whether used fro digging or as a club.

    Key critical to our development was the invention of agriculture, that is, the ability of one person to grow enough food for two or more people.  This meant that another person could develop a skill such as shoe-making or jurisprudence instead of worrying about getting food.

  10. Eating fruits and berries like the other apes. Use of tools and weapons allowed us dominance over other animals, since we no longer had to be physically stronger than them to eat them. We could group together with our primitive weapons, like sharpened stones and fend off lions and other dangerous animals, and for digging for food more efficiently. This would have given an evolutionary advantage to those who could use these weapons the best, or organise the best. Hence an increase in intelligence may have been due to this.
